About H.B. Kim

HB Kim is a U.S. Professional Golfer, Registered Nurse (RN), U.S. Army Combat Veteran, and AM300 Warrior Athlete. He was born and raised on the Pacific Island of Saipan, where he started golfing with his father's guidance at the age of 6. As he developed, he qualified for various international junior golf events, including the Junior World Golf Championships in 1998, 1999, and 2000. As a result of his junior golf performance, H.B. received a full-ride golf scholarship to the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

In 2004, HB turned professional and began playing on the Gateway Tour in Scottsdale, AZ. He finished the 2008 season with a tour-scoring average of 68.7. In 2009, HB attended the PGA Tour Q School, reaching the second stage in his first appearance. During the second stage of Q school, HB suffered a back injury that sidelined him from playing professional golf for several years.

During HB’s recovery, he felt an intense call to service and enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Cavalry Scout and Paratrooper. He served multiple assignments, including Germany, Fort Bragg, N.C. (Fort Liberty), and Fort Bliss. He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) with 2 -18th Infantry Battalion, 170th Infantry Brigade. HB’s unit conducted multiple combat operations security patrols and provided humanitarian aid in Kunduz, Afghanistan.

After his enlistment ended, HB returned to school, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 2021. His passion for serving continued within the El Paso community, starting in the ER and then finding his genuine desire to serve the pediatric population at El Paso Children’s Hospital.

Later that year, he decided to pick up golf again after 10 years without ever taking a swing or touching a golf club and realizing within a few months that his golf skills were resurfacing. In 2022, he competed in a Golfweek Amateur Tour event. He placed second in his first event, and due to his competitive nature, it did not sit well with him. So, he began diligently practicing with the intent to win, which he did 6 times in 2022, earning him a spot in the National Event, where he placed 3rd.

Receiving the support and encouragement of the local golf community, he competed in the 2023 PGA Tour Q School. HB is again going after the biggest dream that never left him. He is striving for a chance to play on the PGA tour.
